Excavating the garden. aka having one heck of a good time playing in the dirt. |
After working our patooties off most of the day on Saturday this past weekend it came time for a much needed break. We found our selves sitting around the patio table numb from a hard days work. My son came over from his excavating in the garden dirt and asked if we could put the dogs up and open up the run and let the chickens out into the yard. What a splendid idea this was! So we did. We all had so much fun watching the peeps explore the yard for the first time. The peeps looked like they were having a good time. We took turns holding different ones and even sat in the grass with them. It was a good afternoon.
Light Brahma babies at 4 1/2 weeks old. So many things to peck at. |
Nap time for the Light Brahmas. |
Buff Orpington and Light Brahma girls enjoying all of the scrumptious bugs in the grass. |
The Welsummer and Black Australorp peeps at 3 weeks old. They didn't want to step on the grass. It must have felt strange to them. They wouldn't move off of my son. |
This pullet turned rooster has been my sons favorite since we brought the chicks home. He has always liked to perch on his shoulder. |
The two Buff Orpington girls decided to settle in for bit on my lap while I was sitting in the grass. (6 1/2 weeks old) |
Those chickens are getting cuter every day :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like they had almost as much fun as ya'll had.
I would say that was a fun day playing with your girls and one rooster. I love the pictures!! Here to a wonderful rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteNow that is what I call a good day too : ) I am partial to the buffs. Sweet little faces.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly deserved a day off...delightful pics of your son and the chicks...!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Liv would be so envious!!! I certainly love those memories of Dad working in the garden and the soft clucks of the hens when we were growing up. We lived in town, but it never felt like it when we were in the backyard. We had country living at it's best, a home built playhouse, fruit and nut trees, and a large garden, grapes, a cellar holding all our canned goods, homemade jelly, boysenberry leather, dried apples, and chickens with fresh eggs.... a little patch of heaven and we didnt even know it growing up. So great that you are able to recreate that 35 yrs later <3 Cant wait to see it and eat it in person!!!!! You inspire me <3 xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteThat day can't happen soon enough. Hoping for a sooner then later reunion. Yes we did have our own little patch of heaven and didn't even realize it. At least not until now 30 some years later. It's not too late to have it all over again. Only difference is we share it with our families now. It is amazing the things that stick with you that you forget about and then they resurrect themselves over time. Best I can do is honor these traditions and share them with my little man.
DeleteI love to see our son playing in the dirt too...what a simple pleasure! And the rooster on his head...how fun! You're making sweet memories.

ReplyDeleteI love that picture. It was a big surprise for us all when he jumped up there. He has always been happy to be on my sons shoulder. Just glad I was able to get the shot.
