Huge Harvest to Come

Raspberries taking off.
We have some minor casualties in our vegetable garden. Some of our seeds that we planted have not made it above ground. Some have and are moving right along. The seeds that have not made it above ground will need to be replaced with plants that are already growing in order to harvest before our summer runs out.   There are established raspberry vines that were growing and had been tied to a trellis that over the last two weeks have doubled in their growth and are now a mass of vines teaming with blossoms. Busy bees are at work all over the blossoms taking special care of each one. This is going to be a fantastic year for the berries. It will soon be time to pull out the canning recipes for making jam and some fruit leather. Among a few losses is a huge harvest awaiting.

Busy bees.

    1. Our have been in the ground 4 years and this year is our first really big harvest. We have had berries every year but just enough to eat fresh (no complaints) but this year they will be coming out our ears! I am very excited!!!

  2. Awesome!
How lucky you are to have established raspberrry plants that are thriving!

Someday, we will have a raspberry patch too.

We have to re-plant some of our garden... the dang frost keeps getting some of our plants.

  4. Raspberries have to be one of my favorite fruits of the summer, much better than strawberries. I'll come by later in the summer to retrieve a bucket full (I only wish). Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your besty, so nice to reunion ever once in awhile.

  5. I'm looking forward to your canning time, so you can share some recipes. My BIL has raspberries and blueberries and last year we did nothing with them except eat a few. I want to help him make some jams this year, so they don't go to waste again.

    1. If you don't get to canning at least freeze what you can't eat. That way you can pull out the berries and make some cobblers or have over ice cream or make smoothies. Just put them in freezer bags and throw them in the freezer. I need to get my grandmothers canning recipe from my mom. She uses it every year to make jam with their apricots and pomegranates.

  6. Ugh....I'm having issues too. I've got seeds not coming up, I'm assuming because of the soaking rains, and I've got a couple of critters digging and munching on my seedlings. Not nice! :-)

    1. Yep same here. Lost a whole watermelon plant and what ever it is got some of the corn too. Little buggers need to stay away. I'm fine with sharing a vegetable or some fruit now and then but not the plants!

    1. This is the first year our berries are so huge. This is their forth year in the ground. We have had produce in years past but this year is the largest by far. Very excited.

I will go to my profile. I didn't realize. Thanks.
