This weekend was a very busy weekend. Husband had a lot of stuff on his agenda and so did I. So with both of us working in different areas of our yard and the help of my brother-in-law and son we accomplished a lot of things that just needed to get done. From weeding the flower beds, to staining the fences on the chicken run area, to general clean up of the yard, we did it all.
Most important on Saturday morning the tiller was pulled out so that we could begin tilling the soil for the garden. This tilling took most of the day to get the soil conditioned for planting. After most of the day and a very tired husband the soil is in good condition to receive our seeds and plants. My son was right in the middle of it all. All that dirt - it was his heaven for the weekend. There was major excavation work being done there in the garden soil. Talk about dirt in motion. This kid and dirt go together like two peas in a pod. He has always loved playing in the dirt. I have always enjoyed watching him play in it. Getting dirty from head to toe and loving it. Nothing that a little bit of water won't clean up. We increased the size of our garden area by three times what we have had in years past. Can not wait to see this area with things growing in it. Can not wait to start harvesting the fruits and veggies of our labor. I am eager to get our plants and seeds in the ground. I will be working on this through out this next week. Need to rake out some of the weed and grass clods that are in the soil and then the planting begins. Carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, chives, onions, garlic, squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, string beans, watermelon, radishes, corn.........I think you get the picture.
Looks like a lot of work but so very worth it. And your son...oh, so much dirt, so little time! ;)
ReplyDeleteSome people call this work. I call this playing in the dirt. Just wait till you see your rewards!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful...all that dirt. I'm right there with you. Lots of dirty hands this week!
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me so anxious to go out and get my hands dirty! I love your enthusiasm and energy for your garden.

This is quite a surprise. O my goodness completely unexpected. How very wonderful. I love a good cup of tea too. Especially in the afternoon. I am so delighted! Thank you so much.
DeleteLooks like your son is having a marvelous time!! Can't blame him. :-) Congrats on winning the giveaway too. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteOh he is all right. Only problem is not enough hours in the day. Hard to pull him away to come in for the evening. Thanks for the congrats too Staci. Thank you again for posting me on your Tuesday post. What a sweet surprise to read your post and find myself there. Thank you so much. I am so very happy that you enjoy yourself here.<3
DeleteHave you got any strength left to stop by and help me clean out my garden? I don't have any veggies, not enough sun in my yard, but I do have flowers. Sure wish I lived close enough to stop by when that garden starts producing. Nothing like fresh out of the garden veggies and herbs. Don't work too hard. Oh and congrats on the win!!
ReplyDeleteWhew I agree. Weeding anything is a lot of work. But if you do it in good company it can be quite nice. I would be happy to help you weed your flower garden if I were closer by. You would be welcome to stop by the garden anytime and grab some fresh veggies or eggs from the girls. Thanks on the congrats. The win was an unexpected wonderful surprise.
